Who Should Read This Tutorial:
Users of MicrosoftÒ Outlook
Sometimes, because we're not sure how to save attachments, people retain
entire emails for long periods of time, when all we really wanted to save
was the attachments (pictures of children, grandchildren, etc.).
In this tutorial, we're going to make it easy for you to save email
attachments so you can delete the email itself.
Saving an email attachment in Microsoft Outlook is very easy. Probably
the biggest challenge is remembering where you saved the attachment(s). If
you follow the steps below, you should have no problems.
1) By single-clicking with your
mouse, highlight the email with the attachment(s) you want to save.
(Please note that in this picture, the preview window
is not showing and real email addresses are blocked
out.)
Notice the paperclip icon (circled in red above)
which indicates that the highlighted email has one or more attachments.
2) Next, click on the FILE menu.
Find "Save Attachments" and move your mouse over it. (You do not
need to click.)
3) From the new menu which appears,
choose the attachment you want to save. If there are multiple
attachments and you want to save all of them, you can click on "All
Attachments." If you want to save more than one but not all of
them, choose "All Attachments" anyway and follow the procedure in step
4.
4) If you chose "All Attachments" a window
like this one will appear:
If you want to save all the
attachments, click OK. On the other hand, if you want to save some
but not all, hold down the CTRL (Control) key and click on the files you
DON'T want to save. The files that are still highlighted when
you're finished are the files which you will be saving. Click
OK.
5) When you click OK, the SAVE ATTACHMENT window will appear.
You must make sure that you are saving the attachments where you want
them. In the example below, note that we are going to save our
attachments on Drive R, under Documents. (Look for the red circle.)
If we wanted to change where we were going to save the attachments, we
could choose from the left column. This step is very important
because if you save without knowing where the attachments are going, you
may hunt for a very long time to find them!
6) At this point, you can choose a folder in which you'll store
the attachments or you can create a new folder. Once you've done
that, click OK and the attachments will be stored where you put them.
